The dog that made headlines a few months ago after a picture went viral showing her chasing after a truck that dropped her off at a gas station has found a new home.
If you recall, a witness captured Butterbean, a German shepherd mix, being dropped off at a Louisiana gas station (many believed abandoned) and then chasing after the pickup truck down a busy street.
“It’s not uncommon at all for this family to abandon the dog at the station and let it chase their truck,” Jeff Dorson, director of the Humane Society of Louisiana, told ABC News at the time. “They’ve done this multiple times and apparently think it’s no big deal, and they don’t seem to care about the welfare of the dog.”

After the picture was provided to the animal-welfare agency (and it made the rounds on a ton of media outlets), the organization was able to track down the dog. Initially, the quasi-owner refused to relinquish Butterbean to the agency but after being paid $400, she agreed. And now Butterbean doesn’t have to worry about chasing trucks, as she has been adopted by Guy Lawrence-Edenheimer, a 65-year-old from Antioch, Illinois, who loves her to pieces.
Lawrence-Edenheimer was chosen out of many applicants from all over the country looking to provide the 7-year-old dog a better home, but Dorson said he had the most enthusiasm.
The retired musician had lost his dog Rocky on March 17 of last year and he heard about Butterbean, who looked similar to his previous dog, on the exact same day of this year.
“The timing was just too perfect,” he told ABC News. “It was like it was meant to be.”
Lawrence-Edenheimer drove down to a Mississippi shelter that was overseeing Butterbean, and it was love at first sight.
She’s an absolute sweetheart,” Lawrence-Edenheimer told the outlet. “After the first night I got her, she jumped onto the bed, licked my face and bounced my elbows up with her nose.”
The dog now takes trips with Lawrence-Edenheimer IN the car when he has errands to run.
